Jenny Fiso played a key role in EOU's win over Evergreen Saturday night.
LA GRANDE, Ore.- Eastern Oregon (17-8, 12-6) got off to a slow start against Evergreen (10-15, 5-13). It wasn't until three minutes into the game that senior Jenny Fiso got the Mountie offense going and they continued to defeat the Geoducks 63-51.
Jenny Fiso drove through the lane, got fouled, and knocked down her free throws on her special night. The Mountaineers continued to build on the lead and about halfway through the first half, Eastern led 21-9. Eastern out rebounded Evergreen 17-14 the first half. EOU also shot 44% from the field to lead at intermission 33-18; 11 of the 33 EOU points were off the bench. Head Coach Anji Weissenfluh stated, "Our bench players took advantage of their minutes and did the little things for us."
The Mountaineers came out second half with a couple of quick buckets to increase the lead to 45-26 with about fifteen minutes left in the contest. Eastern let the Geoducks get within eleven points, but was enough, the Mounties finished on top, 63-51. Weissenfluh stated, "We just did enough to get it done."
Tana Stickney led the Mountaineers with a game night 16 points and pulled down 8 boards. Also in double figures was Salena Leavitt with 10 points, while dishing out 4 assists.
Weissenfluh stated, "Tana Stickney had a great first half, it was probably my fault, the second half we went away from her. We should have got her involved early."
The Mountie will next face I-84 rival College of Idaho on Tuesday, February 17th in Quinn Coliseum. College of Idaho is currently sitting in second place in the Cascade Conference. Make sure to come out and support your lady Mountaineers for their last regular season home game.
