LEWISTON, Idaho—After falling to Corban on Saturday, Ross Conway powered the Concordia baseball team to a 5-1 over The College of Idaho on Sunday to improved to 2-1 at the Regence BlueShield of Idaho Tournament hosted by Lewis-Clark State.

Conway allowed four hits and one run in seven innings of work on the mound for the Cavaliers, before turning the ball over to Myles Stratton. Giving up a single hit, Stratton finished the final two frames to pick up the save.

After C of I scored a run in the bottom of the second via an Alex O’Brien single, the Cavaliers responded in the top of the third with a pair of runs for a 2-1 lead.

Ben Lanier and Jimmy Rudig started the inning with back-to-back singles before Tommy Whalen drew a walk to load the bases. In the ensuing at-bat, Cameron Baker would get credit with an RBI on a fielder’s choice to second base. On the same play, Rudig would come around to score after a throwing error by Yote first baseman Diego Robles.

Neither team would score in the fourth or the fifth, but the Cavs would come back with two more scores in the sixth with the ad of a pair of Yote fielding errors.

With the Cavalier pitching duo holding the C of I batters in check, the score would hold up the rest of the way. Concordia added an additional run in the ninth with Rudig singling to right field to send Danny Brown home from third.

Concordia outhit the Yotes 11-to-5. C of I committed five errors while the Cavs were tagged with one miscue in the field.

Concordia plays its final game at the Regence BlueShield of Idaho Tournament when it takes on Patten at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Cavs Outlast Patten in 16-14 Slugfest

LEWISTON, Idaho—Scoring 13 runs in the first two innings, including a nine-run second, Concordia toppled Patten 16-13 to improve to 3-1 n the year.

Jimmy Rudig collected three RBIs and two runs in the second as the Cavs sent 12 batters to the plate. Rudig reached after being hit by a pitch and later scored on a Brennan Ingram single. Rudig capped the inning with a home run, Concordia’s seventh hit of the frame, to left field in his second trip to the plate to give CU a 13-0 lead.

Patten would score three in the third only to see the Cavs get back two in the home half. Down 16-5, Patten would post four in the seventh and four again in the ninth before eventually running outs on a Deandre Grounder to second.

Seven Cavaliers posted a multi-hit game including Ingram who went 4-of-6 at the plate. Rudig finished with three RBI and three runs scored. Hitting his first home run of the season, J.J. Berg went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs. Chris Jaime and Mike Dickman also tallied three RBIs for the Cavs.

Dylan Smith picked up the win for CU, pitching six innings. Smith allowed seven hits and five runs, four of which were earned while striking out three.

Concordia returns to action on Feb. 19 when it faces Linfield. Opening pitch is set for 6 p.m. in McMinnville, Ore.
