Ben Lanier was the sole CU baserunner to get past second base against the Wildcats on Thursday.
Larson Limits Cavs as Linfield Rolls
MCMINNVILLE, Ore. –Freshman right-hander Ryan Larson held Concordia to two hits over seven innings as Linfield toppled the Cavs 10-0 in non-conference baseball action on Thursday night at the Jim Doran Auto Classic.
With the loss, Concordia dropped to 3-2 on the year. The game represented the season opener for Linfield, a NCAA Division III power.
After CU leadoff hitter Ben Lanier opened the game with a single and eventually advanced to third via a walk issued to Jimmy Rudig and a double-play, Larson would get a strikeout to end the inning and the early scoring threat from the Cavs.
Striking out six while allowing three walks, Larson would not allow a Cavalier past first base the rest of his duration on the mound.
The Wildcats were held scoreless until the fourth when they touched CU starter Ian Miller for three runs. Linfield added two in the fifth, three in the seventh and two more in the eight for the 10-0 win.
Driving in three runs and scoring two, Linfield’s Cole Bixenman went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles to lead the Wildcats.
Apart from Lanier, Tommy Whalen connected on a single in the fourth and Brennan Ingram reached on a single to right field in the eighth to represent the Cavs only hits.
Concordia returns to action tomorrow when the Cavs face George Fox at 1 p.m. in Newberg, Ore. Later in the day, CU returns to the Jim Doran Auto Classic to face Puget Sound in McMinnville with a 6 p.m. start at Roy Helser Field.
