PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Concordia women's team and the Oregon Tech men's team captured the top seeds in the upcoming Cascade Collegiate Conference basketball tournaments, which begin at campus sites this coming week.

The women's tournament gets underway Tuesday, Feb. 24; the men's tourney begins Wednesday, Feb. 25.

Concordia did it the hard way. After sharing the regular season CCC championship with College of Idaho, the Cavs and Yotes exhausted the league's five-step tiebreaker process, as the Cavaliers won a coin flip that secured the No. 1 seed in the league's postseason tournament as well as the automatic bid to the NAIA Tournament that is awarded to the league champion.

It wasn't nearly as dramatic on the men's side, although it was still very close. While Oregon Tech and Eastern Oregon shared the regular season CCC title, it was the Hustlin' Owls who emerged victorious in the league's tiebreaker formula. Unlike the women, the men's No. 1 seed and league's first automatic bid to the national tournament was decided in the second tiebreaker. Because the two teams split their regular season series, the next tiebreaker was a comparison of overall records vs. teams that finished .500 or better in CCC play. OIT won the nod by finishing with a 7-3 record compared to EOU's mark of 6-4.

There is still an automatic bid to each national tournament on the CCC table; the winner of the league's postseason tournament (or the runner-up should Concordia win the women's tournament or Oregon Tech win the men's tournament) will also punch a ticket to the NAIA Championships. The women's tournament will be March 11-17 in Sioux City, Iowa; the men's tournament, also slated for March 11-17, will take place in Branson, Mo.
