Coyotes Split on Final Day of SoCal Smash
RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Jody Zillner tossed her second shutout in as many days, as The College of Idaho won the consolation game at the Ringor SoCal Smash Tournament, topping No. 21 Cal State-San Marcos, 4-0.
The junior allowed just four singles, walked one, and struck out four - getting some defensive help in the win, as Stacy Smith threw out the potential tying run at home plate to end the fifth inning.
The Yotes got on the board in the third, as after a one-out walk to Amaia Enrico, Amy Rhoades ripped an RBI double. They would get three insurance runs in the sixth, as Caylin LePire doubled home two, with Rhoades following with a run-scoring single.
Earlier in the day, The C of I dropped a tough 2-0 decision to Simpson University, as Briana Melgard tossed a two-hitter at the Yotes. Dani Villyard had both Coyote hits, while Donnae Carrell took the loss in the circle, allowing an unearned run in five innings of work.
The Lady Yotes will take next weekend off, preparing for the Idaho Cup in Boise - where they'll meet host Boise State and Idaho State.
