First Newcomer Signs to Geoducks Volleyball for '09
OLYMPIA, Wash. - Head Coach Clay Blackwood announced the signing of 5-10 Setter Meghan De La Rosa for the 2009 season at The Evergreen State College.
De La Rosa is a '07 graduate of Kennewick High School and has played volleyball for Spokane Falls Community College for two years where she earned her AA degree.
Playing volleyball is a passion for De La Rosa and has played the sport most of her life. While at Kennewick, Meghan lettered three years in volleyball and track and field and her senior year added a letter in golf.
"Meghan brings a high level of setting experience" says Blackwood. "Her height and solid competitiveness will help our program. Coming in as a junior she will look to compete for the starting setter position in the 2009 season".
At Evergreen De La Rosa plans to focus on cultural studies and eventually enter the Masters In Teaching program at ESC.
She enjoyed her visit to the college when meeting Blackwood and the team.
"I chose The Evergreen State College because I thought it would be a great opportunity to continue my education as well as my volleyball career. I fell in love with the campus and its atmosphere".
De La Rosa has had a decorated Volleyball career so far. In high school from 2003-2007 she earned the Scholar Athlete Award in each Sport played and she was named 2nd Team All-Conference for Volleyball in 2006. While at SFCC she earned the 2008-2009 Academic Achievement Award and was named to the 2009 Wenatchee Cross-Over All-Tournament Team.
