Concordia's Sara Taylor helped the Cavs defeat No. 4-ranked UBC this week.
Medalist Honors for Aho; Hole-In-One by Taylor Highlight Concordia Win at CSU East Bay Invite
SAN LENADRO, Calif.—After taking a nine-stoke lead into the final round, the Concordia women’s golf team held on for a five-stroke win at the CSU East Bay Invitational held at the Monarch Bay Golf Course this week.
Concordia (330-317—647), ranked No. 12 in the latest NAIA poll, survived a late charge by the fourth-ranked team from the University of British Columbia (339-313—652).
Lindsay Aho (79-73—152) captured medalist honors after opening the first day with a three-stroke lead over UBC’s Lindsey Manion (72-73—155). CU freshman Holly Speer (81-81—162) finished in fourth place with back-to-back 81s, Kim Lindow (88-77—165) placed seventh with a 165 and Sara Taylor (85-85—171) concluded the two-day tournament in 10th place with a 171.
Taylor, another freshman, connected on a hole-in-one on the 10th hole on the second day of the tournament to give the Cavs an instant boost.
“Monday was cold, windy with off and on rain. All the teams labored out there,” Concordia head coach Ronn Grove said. “Our gals fought the elements and wound up with a decent lead on the first day.”
Concordia will get another shot at the highly-ranked UBC squad when it competes in Vancouver, B.C., at the Gail Harvey Moore Collegiate held at the Shaughnessy Golf Course from March 8-9.
“We have now won two in a row and in doing so the gals have beaten five top-10 teams,” Grove said. “We still have a lot of work to do to shore up our short-game weaknesses. So, it's back to work when we get back to prepare for the UBC Invitational in early March.”
