Jguwon Hogges led Tech with 22 points and six steals in 64-50 win in the semifinals of the conference tournament over Northwest Christian. The Owls will host Evergreen State in the championship game on Tuesday night.
Hustlin' Owls Move on to Host CCC Finals vs. Evergreen Tuesday
Klamath Falls, Ore. – The No.9 ranked Oregon Tech men’s basketball team ground out a 64-50 win in the semifinal round of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament over Northwest Christian University tonight at Danny Miles Court. The Owls will move on to host the tournaments No.4 seed, The Evergreen State College, on Tuesday night in the championship game. Tech improved to 27-5 with the victory. The Beacons season ends with an overall mark of 18-13.
Jguwon Hogges led all scorers with 22 points on 9-14 from the floor, including six steals and three rebounds. Justin Parnell finished with 16 points and three assists. Christian Cavanaugh netted nine points and grabbed eight rebounds, followed by Josh Wetzler with six points and eight boards of his own.
Cameron Marshal finished with a team-high 10 points, the only Beacon in double figures. NCU got eight points each from Erik Quick-Warner, Jordan Whittenburg and Dylan Perry, with Whittenburg grabbing a team-high four rebounds and Quick-Warner adding four assists.
Oregon Tech opened up with an 8-0 run to start the game, before the Beacons’ Whittenburg hit a 3-pointer five minutes into the contest to start their scoring. NCU then cut the Owl lead to 12-8 with 11:11 remaining in period one.
Jguwon Hogges then gave the Owls a nine point lead, Tech’s largest of the half, on a 3-pointer with 5:45 remaining, to make it 24-15.
NCU closed out the first half on a 10-4 run, as Tech took a slim 28-25 lead to the locker room.
NCU closed to within two points on three occasions, the last at the 17:03 mark, to cut the Owl lead to 36-34.
The Owls then pulled away and gained their first double-digit lead of the game, 48-38, with 10:45 to play.
Tech was able to hold the Beacons to only two baskets over the next nine minutes to pull away to a 60-45 lead and cruise the final of 64-50.
The No.1 seeded Hustlin’ Owls will host No.4 seed The Evergreen State College on Tuesday, March 3rd in the conference championship game at 7:30 p.m.
