KLAMATH FALLS, Oregon -- Head Oregon Tech softball coach, Greg Stewart, announced today that Sara Coates of Salem, Oregon has signed a letter-of-intent to play for the Owls next season.

Coates, an Outfielder, received First Team All Conference Honors and also received HM All State Outfielder recognition her junior year playing for Scott McCormick and the South Salem High Saxons. She hit .411 with 6 doubles, 4 triples, 5 Homeruns and had 24 RBI in 28 games. Last summer, playing for the Oregon Panthers Gold ASA Team coached by Jerry Orlando, Lance Gilgan, and Dave Durfee, Coates hit over .300 with 36 RBI and 13 stolen basses while playing a very competitive schedule for one of the Northwest’s perennial ASA Teams.

“Sara will be an immediate impact player for Oregon Tech in 2010” said head coach Greg Stewart. “She is a player that can hit for both average and power, she is a quality defensive outfielder with a good arm and speed. I feel very fortunate to sign a player of Sara’s caliber both as a player and as a person.”

Coates is the first recruit for the Owls to commit to Oregon Tech for the 2010 season. She is the Daughter of Mark and Diane Coates of Salem, Oregon. Coates looks to be a Dental Hygiene major at Oregon Tech.
