No. 3 Oregon Tech Claims 72-56 Win Over No. 14 Knights

Klamath Falls, Ore. – The No. 3 ranked Hustlin’ Owls turned a two point halftime lead into a 72-56 victory over No. 14 Warner Pacific tonight at Danny Miles Court. Tech held Warner Pacific to only 35.0% shooting (21-60), allowing the visiting Knights to only three points in the final five minutes of play, as the Owls moved to 21-4 on the season and 11-4 in CCC play. The Knights drop to 17-6 and 10-5 in the conference standings.

Jguwon Hogges led Tech with a team-high 20 points, grabbing five rebounds and three steals to go with three assists. Justin Parnell finished with 17 points, including 3-7 from long range. Christian Cavanaugh netted 13 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, followed by Josh Wetzler with 10 points and six rebounds.

Aukai Wong led Warner Pacific with 18 points and five rebounds. Adam Moore netted 12 points, all in the first half, and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds in the loss.

The Owls held the lead for most of the first half before the Knights would tie the game at 23-23 and then take a 24-23 lead on an Adam Moore free throw. The Owls then tied the contest at 26-26 on a Christian Cavanaugh jumper. Tech would eventually bump the lead to as many as seven points before Warner narrowed the gap to 35-33 at the intermission.

After three lead changes and three more ties, the game was still up for grabs with both teams locked at 47-47 with 10:48 remaining in the contest.

An 11-4 Owl run, capped off by two Jguwon Hogges free throws, gave Tech a 58-51 cushion with 6:37 to play. The Owls then gained their first double-digit lead at 65-55 with 2:45 to play, and only allowed the visitors a single point for the remainder, as the Owls settled for the 72-56 final.

Oregon Tech will host Cascade College on Saturday, February 7th, with the tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
