SOU Women Wrap Up Playoff Spot with Win Over Cascade
ASHLAND, ORE - The 23rd-ranked Southern Oregon women’s basketball team wrapped up a playoff spot for the third straight year with a 71-57 victory over Cascade College tonight at McNeal Pavilion.
SOU improved to 20-4 overall and 12-3 in Cascade Conference play with the victory. Cascade College dropped to 10-12 overall and 3-12 in league action.
The Raiders have now nine straight games and have won 20 games in a season for the eighth time in school history.
Speer led SOU with 24 points and 18 rebounds, including eight offensive boards. Rhiannon Dickison finished with 21 points and Whitney Scott had 13 points.
Cascade got 20 points and 10 rebounds from Robin Swain.
Southern Oregon jumped out to a 38-28 haltime lead after big halves by Speer and Dickison. Speer went for 14 points and nine rebounds in the first 20 minutes and Dickison had 10 points and a pair of 3-pointers.
The Raiders’ offense slowed down in the second half as they shot just 27 percent and went 0-for-13 from 3-point land, but they made 15 of 22 games to take control.
The Raiders host Warner Pacific Saturday night.
