San Francisco, Calif.--- Oregon Tech’s Neil Emerson pitched six innings of shutout baseball, while Ryson Mauricio went 3-5 and picked up the games first RBI, helping the Oregon Tech baseball team to their first win of the 2009 season today at Maloney Field. The Owls won 4-2 in game one, but dropped a close 2-1 decision in the nightcap. Tech is 1-3 on the season.

Back-to-back doubles by Trent Smith and Ryson Mauricio in the top of the fifth gave the Hustlin’ Owls a 1-0 lead in game one. They added two more runs in the sixth to increase the lead to 3-0. SF State battled back scoring twice in the seventh inning. Tech relief pitcher, Chad Trevisan, shut the Gators out in the final two and two-thirds innings to record his first save of the season.

Neil Emerson (1-0) picked up the win for Oregon Tech, pitching six scoreless innings of three-hit ball while striking out three and walking two. Trevisan had one strikeout while he gave up four hits and two runs (one earned). Mauricio finished game one with three hits and Cory Spires and Lee Eklund each had two hits for the Hustlin’ Owls.

Game two was a pitching dual between SF State’s Jeff Henning and the Hustlin’ Owls’ Chris Thomas. Henning pitched six innings, giving up six hits and one run while striking out a career high 9 batters and walking just one in picking up his first win of the season. Chris Thomas (0-1) took the loss for Oregon Tech as he pitched 5.1 innings of seven-hit ball giving up two runs while striking out three and walking three.

Dylan Hansen put Oregon Tech on the board first in the top of the first inning with a one-out RBI single to left field which scored Mauricio. A Gator two-out RBI single in their half of the third tied the game at one. The game remained tied at one until an SFSU RBI by Ricky Del Zompo with one-out proved to be the game-winner.

Cory Spires had two hits for Oregon Tech, going 4-8 at the plate on the afternoon and added an RBI. Dylan Hansen finished 1-3 at the plate and knocked in Tech’s only run in game 2. Quinn Hummel picked up two hits on the afternoon, while Mauricio was 4-7 at the plate in the doubleheader.
