Yakima's Corey King Signs with Concordia Golf
PORTLAND, Ore.—Corey King of Yakima, Wash., has signed to continue his education and compete for the Concordia University men’s golf team, Cavalier head coach Ronn Grove announced.
King is in his fourth season of varsity golf for West Valley High School. As a junior, King finished in 21st place at the Washington Jr. Golf Association State Tournament. He also recorded a third-place result at the Suncadia Invitational as well as qualified for the Washington 3A Regional Championship.
As a sophomore King, posted a second-place result at the Lee Dolquist Invitational in addition to qualifying for regional qualification at the high school level.
“Despite having to battle a rare disease (hip dysplasia), Corey commits himself to golf and performs exceptionally well,” Grove said. “Corey will demonstrate that one can overcome physical challenges in the golf world just as Casey Martin did before him. We are proud to have him joining our golf team and look forward to him as an integral part of this proud program.”
The Concordia men’s golf team is recently received votes toward the latest NAIA top-25 poll. Last season, the first under Grove, the Cavaliers had three all-conference and two second-team all-conference golfers en route to capturing the Cascade Collegiate Conference championship in the league’s inaugural title event.
