SIOUX CITY, Iowa—Down 21 with just over 10 minutes to play in the second half, Concordia mounted a 23-3 run to cut the deficit to a single point, but with the game clock working against them, the Cavaliers saw their season end when a last-second three pointer to send the game to overtime bounce harmlessly off the front rim, falling to Dickinson State 58-55.

With a 55-54 lead and 9.6 seconds remaining, Dickinson State’s Kelly Pankratz hit a pair of free throws to give the No. 5 Blue Hawks a three-point advantage. Taking the ball down the court following its last timeout, the Cavaliers generated a clean look at the basket for senior Maryam Razavi only to see the comeback hopes dissipate when the shot clanged off the iron.

With the win, DSU improved to 26-6 on the year and moved to the Quarterfinals in the NAIA DII Women’s Basketball Tournament. The Blue Hawks will face No. 3 Ozarks (Mo.) on Saturday. Concordia, winners of the Cascade Collegiate Conference regular season as well as the postseason tournament, ended its year with a 29-4 overall record.

DSU took a quick 5-0 advantage out of the gate in the first and never relinquished its lead. The Blue Hawks pushed the gap to 10 with the score 26-16 on a Juanita Newsom free throw.

The Cavs responded with five straight, three by way of a Kenna Borgmeier three, to make it a five-point contest but behind six quick points from Mindy Vanderpan, DSU returned with a 12-2 run to create a 38-23 margin.

DSU would maintain a 15-point spread heading into intermission with the score 42-27.

Danielle Clauson and Angela Gimeno recorded back-to-back buckets for CU out of the break, but DSU would reel off 10 straight to create a 21-point lead with just over 10 minutes to play.
Facing its biggest deficit of the day, the Cavaliers held DSU without a field goal over the last 10 minutes of action to slowly create its comeback attempt.

The Blue Hawks scored just three points, all via free throw in the final 10 minutes while Clauson came up with 12 of her game-high 23 points coming in the waning moments.

A total of 50 fouls were called on both teams with 27 going against the Cavs. Senior Angela Gimeno was second on the team with 10 points and fouled out with seven minutes to play.

Kia Herbal scored 13and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds to lead the Blue Hawks.

After shooting 50 percent in the first half, DSU was held to 16 percent in the second, connecting on just 4-of-25 attempts from the field. Concordia converted 29.4 percent in the first and 27.6 in the second.

DSU took 31 free throw attempts while CU got to the line on 23 occasions. Concordia outrebounded the Blue Hawks 46-44.
