Errors Cost Owls, Drop Twinbill to Concordia
Klamath Falls, Ore. – The Oregon Tech baseball team committed 11 errors and could not stop a late Concordia rally in the nightcap to salvage a split, losing 7-2 and 10-8 in a doubleheader played today at Kiger Stadium in Klamath Falls.
The Cavaliers (9-12, 4-7) plated two runs in the third inning for the games first runs. The Owls answered with a single run in the fourth, making it 2-1. Two more Cav runs in the fifth inning are all they would need, eventually winning by a 7-2 score.
Tech found themselves down 6-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth of the nightcap, but a six-run rally would tie the game 6-6. Mitch Crim emptied the bases on a triple to cut the lead in half, 6-3. Kory Locken then doubled to score Crim. Zach Earle singled and moved Locken to third. A double play ball then scored Locken. Spires would single to drive in the tying run, 6-6.
The Owls then added two more in the bottom half of the eighth, holding the 8-6 advantage into the final inning of play.
Concordia led off with a single to right and then a walk and hit batter loaded the bases with no outs. CU tied the game on back-to-back RBI singles and added two more insurance runs on a Mike Dickman double to go up 10-8.
Oregon Tech then went down in order in the ninth, as CU secured the 10-8 win in the nightcap.
Quinn Hummel, Cory Spires and Lee Eklund finished with two hits each in game one, with Eklund driving in the Owls’ only RBI of the first game.
Chad Trevisan went 6.2 innings and scattered six hits and struck out five batters. Trevisan gave up only two earned runs, but fell to 3-2 on the season with the loss.
In the nightcap, both Locken and Spires tallied two hits. Mitch Crim had three RBI, Locken two and Spires drove in a single run.
Cory Stratton was the pitcher of record, falling to 0-2 on the year.
