CCC Athletes of Week Named in Track, Baseball, Softball
The following student-athletes earned CCC Athlete of the Week honors in their respective sports for the period March 9-15:
Male Track Athlete of the Week
Southern Oregon’s Cameron Kreuz, a senior from Portland, Ore., won the 800 meters at the Northwest Conference Preview in Forest Grove with an NAIA provisional qualifying time of 1:54.80.
Male Field Athlete of the Week
Corban’s Jason Mentzer, a junior from Aumsville, Ore., hit Cascade Collegiate Conference qualifying marks in three throwing events -- discus (119-3), hammer (130-11) and shot put (41-1) – at the Mt. Hood Open in Gresham, Ore.
Female Track Athlete of the Week
Corban’s Carli Moller, a senior from Vancouver, Wash., qualified for the CCC Championships by winning the 1,500 meter run in a time of 4:49.82 before taking her second medal of that day in the 800 meters (2:23.35), which also qualified her for the league championship meet.
Female Field Athlete of the Week
College of Idaho’s Emily McCutchan, a junior from Kuna, Idaho, took third place in the heptathlon at the Northwest Nazarene Open in Nampa, Idaho. McCutchan scored 3,192 points, winning the individual titles in the 100 hurdles, 200 meters and shot put.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Northwest Christian’s Brooke Davis, a 5-9 freshman from Sherwood, Ore., tied an NCU freshman record with 14 strikeouts in pitching the Beacons to a 3-2, 10-inning victory over George Fox. Davis allowed just one earned run in picking up the victory over the NCAA Division III opponent.
Softball Player of the Week
Northwest Christian’s Brooke Davis, a 5-9 freshman from Sherwood, Ore., set single-game school marks with three homers (in consecutive at-bats) and seven RBIs in a 12-4 victory over NCAA Division III foe George Fox.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
College of Idaho’s Jason Barry, a 6-4 senior pitcher from Castelgar, British Columbia, tossed a three-hitter in the Yotes’ 3-2 victory over defending national champion Lewis-Clark State. In seven innings, Barry scattered three hits, walked none and struck out three.
Baseball Player of the Week
Concordia’s Brady Miletich, a 6-2 freshman outfielder from Vancouver, Wash., helped the Cavaliers to a split of their four-game NAIA West series with Oregon Tech. In three games, Miletich batted .400, hit two homers and drove in five runs. He posted a pair of three-hit games.
