PORTLAND, Ore.—Mirza Ramic, a senior at Prairie High School (Vancouver, Wash.), has signed to continue his education and play soccer for Concordia University, Cavalier men’s soccer coach Dan Birkey announced this week.

“Mirza is a very good distributor of the ball and is also very dangerous around the box as he gets to the ball in the air,” Birkey said. “We think he will develop quickly due to a very strong soccer heritage. He has a very good intellect for the game and has had strong coaching throughout his club experience and the ODP.”

Ramic is in his fifth year as a member of the Oregon Olympic Development Team. At the prep level, Ramic is also a three-year team MVP and captain for the Falcons. He was named to the all-league and al-region team as a midfielder in 2008.

Under coach Birkey, who is in his 21st season, Concordia finished the 2008 season with a 14-6-2 record en route to winning their eighth straight Cascade Collegiate Conference championship. The Cavaliers earned a berth into the NAIA Championships and advanced to the quarterfinals with a penalty-kick win over No. 9 Concordia (Calif.) in the opening round of the NAIA Tournament. In the round of 16, No. 8 Hastings defeated Concordia 1-0 to end the Cavalier run.
