CU's Rebecca Gimeno Named Honorable Mention All-American by WBCA
ATLANTA—Concordia’s Rebecca Gimeno was one of 18 women’s basketball players recognized as NAIA State Farm Coaches’ All-America Team Honorable Mentions, as announced by the Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association this week.
The 10-member All-America team team was selected by an online vote of the selection committee. The committee is comprised of one representative from each of the six geographical regions and a chairperson.
Gimeno, a 5-foot-4 senior guard from Spokane, Wash., was one of six student-athletes selected to represent Region I and is now in the running for selection to the 10-member All-America Team to be released March 17.
Gimeno, a transfer from Montana Tech, earned the Cascade Collegiate Conference Newcomer of the Year award after leading Concordia to a share of its first-ever regular season CCC title. A two-time CCC Player of the Week, Gimeno averaged 14.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game during the CCC regular season. Gimeno was also named to the All-CCC and All-Defensive teams.
Concordia finished the season ranked No. 10 in the NAIA Coaches’ Poll. An all-time best representation, the Cavaliers reached as high as No. 8 in the standings during the regular season. The Cavaliers reached the second round of the NAIA National Championships with a win over Iowa Wesleyan in the opening round.
