Dixon Helps Lady Yotes to Sweep of NNU
CALDWELL, Idaho - Heather Dixon hit a pair of home runs and three pitchers combined to allow just two runs on the afternoon, as The College of Idaho swept a softball doubleheader from Northwest Nazarene, winning 6-1 and 3-1, at Symms Field.
In the opener, Dixon broke open a tight game in the fifth inning, launching a three-run homer over the centerfield wall to give the Lady Yotes (6-9) a 4-0 lead. The senior transfer also added a long solo homer in the nightcap, as the Yotes ended a four-game losing streak.
Jody Zillner was dominant in Game 1, allowing just two hits and an unearned run in picking up her fifth win of the season. Zillner struck out a season-high 11 batters and helped her own cause with a two-run homer in the fifth inning to cap the Coyotes scoring.
Amy Rhoades went 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Coyotes, while Haley Hevern had both NNU (4-16) hits, including a double.
The nightcap saw the Yotes take the lead in the second on a Kristen Haugen bases loaded RBI, then added an unearned run on the play when an errant throw allowed Stacy Smith to score. Dixon would add her second homer of the day in the third, a solo shot, to make it 3-0, before the Crusaders got on the board in the fourth on a solo homer from Arielle Chao.
Brooke Judy got the win, allowing just three hits and a run in her five innings of work, fanning four, with Donnae Carrell getting the final six outs for her first save.
Haley Butcher had two hits for the Lady Yotes in Game 2, while six different NNU hitters recording one hit.
The Lady Yotes return to action on Sunday, hosting Simpson University in a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
