CCC Players of Week Named in Track, Softball, Baseball

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Student-athletes from Northwest, Oregon Tech, Concordia, Southern Oregon, and College of Idaho earned Cascade Collegiate Conference Player of the Week honors in their respective sports, the league office announced Monday.

The honorees, for the period Feb. 23-March 1:

Male Track Athlete of the Week
Northwest’s Seth Bridges, a freshman from Anderson Island, Wash., earned CCC Male Track Athlete of the Week honors after winning the 1,500 meters at the Pacific Lutheran Spring Open in Tacoma Saturday. Bridges clocked a time of 4:12.21. He will compete in the 3,000 meters later this week at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Johnson City, Tenn.

Female Track Athlete of the Week
Northwest’s Paige DeLapp, a freshman from Vancouver, Wash., was named the CCC Female Track Athlete of the Week. At the Pacific Lutheran Spring Open this past Saturday, DeLapp won the 800 meters in a time of 2:25.78, seven seconds better than the second-place finisher.

Female Field Athlete of the Week
Oregon Tech’s Brianne Kenyon earned CCC Female Field Athlete of the Week recognition after establishing a school record in the shot put with a throw of 42-6 at the Wildcat Relays in Chico, Calif. Kenyon’s effort was good enough to reach the automatic qualifying standard for the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in May.

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Concordia’s Danielle Pulfrey, a 5-7 junior from Hillsboro, Ore., was named CCC Softball Pitcher of the Week. Pulfrey pitched all but 2 1/3 innings in a four-game week for the Cavs, starting twice while coming on in relief on the other two occasions. Charged with only one earned run in more than 25 innings of work, Pulfrey posted a 0.27 ERA while collecting three wins. She struck out 43 batters and held her opponents to a .116 batting average.

Softball Player of the Week
Southern Oregon’s Strohm Fouty, a 5-3 senior center fielder from Polson, Mont., was named the CCC Softball Player of the Week after batting .667 and driving in a pair of runs during five games last week. Fouty was 10 of 15 at the plate, with one double and four runs scored. She also stole three bases in as many attempts.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Concordia’s Ben Rue, a 6-4 senior from Silverton, Ore., was named the CCC Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Rue pitched seven innings of shutout ball to hand University of British Columbia its first NAIA West loss of the season. Rue fanned five batters and scattered six hits in a 4-0 Cavalier victory.

Baseball Player of the Week
College of Idaho’s Cody Brubaker, a 6-1 senior left fielder from Post Falls, Idaho, is the CCC Baseball Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. In a three-game sweep of Simpson last week, Brubaker batted .417 hit a pair of homers and drove in six runs.
