Landis Leads Corban to Second Place At Season-Opening Pacific Invite
BANKS, Ore. – Sophomore Steve Landis (Gladstone, Ore.) shot a combined 7-over 151 that included an opening round score of 3-over 75, as Corban's men's golf team finished second at the two-day season-opening Pacific Invitational Sunday at Quail Valley Golf Course.
In the opening event of the spring season, the Warriors sent six players to the two-day event and combined for a 36-hole total of 53-over 629 (31-over 319 & 22-over 310). Corban finished 42 strokes behind tournament champion and Invitational-host Pacific (11-over 587).
Landis’ two-round score included an eagle on the par 5 third hole on the opening day, as well as four birdies and eight straight pars to close out Round #1 en route to finishing fourth overall individually.
Along with Landis, freshman Joey Duwe (Kingston, Wash.) came back after firing an opening round 10-over 82 with a final round of 4-over 76 for a combined 36-hole score of 14-over 158. Duwe's score was good enough for a Top 10 finish, as the first-year Warrior tied for eighth place along with two other competitors.
Freshman Boe Brodhun (Port Angeles, Wash.) rebounded for an opening round of 16-over 88 with the team's lagrest turn around thanks to a final round of 4-over 76. For the first time in his young career, Brodhun carded a sub-80 round that catapulted him into a 15th place finish.
The Warriors' team scoring was rounded out by senior Nathan Furumasu (Gladstone, Ore.), who fired his second straight 10-over 82 for a combined two-round total of 20-over 164. The senior captain's two-round score tied him with Brodhun for 15th individually.
Freshman Chris Dudley (Boise, Idaho) struggled through the final round, as he fired an 18-hole total of 16-over 88 to go along with his opening round 8-over 80. Dudley's 36-hole total of 24-over 168 was good enough for a 17th place finish individually.
Junior Tyler Dean (Klamath Falls, Ore.) closed out Corban's competitors, as he fired a two-round total of 37-over 181 (87-92) to finish 21st individually.
As a team, Corban recorded one eagle, sixteen birdies, and 96 pars en route to finishing 27 strokes ahead of NCAA Division III member George Fox.
Corban will return to the links on Saturday, March 7th, when they compete at the George Fox Invitational beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Trysting Tree Golf Course.
