Walk Off Winners Lift Lady Yotes to Sweep of Simpson
CALDWELL, Idaho - Heather Dixon hit a walk-off three-run homer to win Game 1 and Dani Villyard had a walk-off bases loaded walk to win Game 2, as The College of Idaho swept a doubleheader with Simpson University, winning 6-4 and 5-4, at Symms Field.
After a Nicki Feuerbach RBI single in the top of the seventh gave the Redhawks (17-13) a 4-3 lead, the Coyotes fought back. Amaia Enrico led off with a walk, with Amy Rhoades reaching on a fielders choice after Simpson was unable to get an out at second. Dixon, who had an RBI single in the fifth inning, hit the first pitch from Trinity Cuff over the left field wall for the fourth walk-off homer in program history.
Brooke Judy picked up with win in relief for the Lady Yotes (8-9), with Dixon going 2-for-4, while Danielle Cristoso and Candice Valerga each recording two hits for Simpson.
Game 2 saw the Redhawks get a Stefanie Singh RBI double in the first to take the lead, but the Coyotes tied it in the second on a Nikki Shumway RBI triple. Simpson would plate a single run in the third and Valerga added a solo homer in the fourth to make it 3-1. However, a Kalie Kurdy RBI double and a Stacy Smith RBI single in the bottom of the fourth tied the game at 3-3.
Simpson would take the lead in the sixth on a Valerie Rodriguez RBI double, but Kurdy knotted the game for a third time in the bottom of the inning with a two-out RBI single. The Coyotes would win it again in their final at bat, as Donnae Carrell walked and Amy Rhoades legged out a two-out infield single. The Redhawks would intentionally walk Dixon to get to Villayard, who took a 3-2 pitch up high to end the game.
Kurdy, Dixon, and Smith all had two hits for the Yotes, with Judy picking up the win in relief, while Sylvia Parker notching two hits in the loss for Simpson.
The Lady Yotes return to action on Friday afternoon, opening Cascade Conference play with a doubleheader at Northwest Christian.
