CCC Players of the Week Named in Track, Softball, Baseball
Male Track Athlete of the Week
Concordia’s Curtis Parrish, a senior from Toppenish, Wash., reached an NAIA automatic qualifying time in the 400 hurdles with a time of 53.88 at the University of Oregon Preview in Eugene. Parrish’s time ranks No. 2 on the NAIA’s 2009 performance list.
Male Field Athlete of the Week
Southern Oregon’s Akeem Jackson, a junior from Mesa, Ariz., captured the long jump title at the Hornet Invitational hosted by Sacramento State. Jackson’s mark of 23-9 ½ was good for an NAIA automatic qualifying mark.
Female Track Athlete of the Week
College of Idaho’s Stephanie Helm, a sophomore from Challis, Idaho, earned an NAIA automatic qualifying time in the 1,500 meters by recording a school-record time of 4:43.25, nearly four seconds better than her previous best.
Female Field Athlete of the Week
Concordia’s Katherine Tripp, a junior from Sutherlin, Ore., recorded a pair of NAIA qualifying marks at the University of Oregon Preview, registering a school-record mark of 46-10 ¼ in the shot put and 138-6 in the discus. Her shot put mark ranks No. 1 on the NAIA’s 2009 performance list.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
College of Idaho’s Brooke Judy, a 5-10 junior from Kuna, Idaho, went 3-0 last week, pitching a total of 7 2/3 innings, allowing just two runs and spacing five hits while striking out five batters. Judy posted a victory over Northwest Nazarene and a pair of wins over Simpson.
Softball Player of the Week
College of Idaho’s Heather Dixon, a 5-10 senior from Eagle, Idaho, helped the Yotes to a 4-0 record. Dixon batted .500 (6-12), belted three homers and drove in eight runs, including a walk-off homer vs. Simpson.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Corban’s Jason Braun, a 6-5 senior right-hander from Dallas, Ore., struck out a career high 11 batters in a 1-0 win over Concordia. Braun scattered eight hits and walked none in a nine-inning complete-game effort.
Baseball Player of the Week
College of Idaho’s Brad Carlsen, a 6-0 senior second baseman from Reno, Nev., batted .400 (4-10), hit a homer and drove in five runs for the Yotes last week. Carlsen’s week included a three-run homer in a Game 2 victory over 14th-ranked British Columbia.
