Arima, Concordia Take First-Day Leads at Cavalier Spring Classic
RIDGEFIELD, Wash.—Paced by individual leader Marc Arima, the Concordia men’s golf teams generated a seven-stroke lead after the first day of action at the Cavalier Spring Classic held at the Tri-Mountain Golf Course on Monday.
The second round scheduled for Monday afternoon was cancelled due to severe weather in the area. The tournament will conclude on Tuesday with one final round of 18 holes.
Behind Arima’s first round 2-under 70, Concordia tallied a 7-over 295 for a seven-stroke advantage over Southwestern Oregon Community College (302). Northwest Nazarene finished the day in third (306) while the University of Victoria (308) finished two strokes back in fourth.
Northwest Christian, Walla Walla University and Warner Pacific all tied for fifth place after firing a 309. Also representing the Cascade Collegiate Conference was Corban (319) in ninth place and The College of Idaho (327) in 10th.
Arima entered the clubhouse with a one-stroke lead over a pair of competitors from SW Oregon C.C. Victoria’s Mitch Evanecz (73) finished the day in fourth while five players tied for fifth place by recording a 74.
Justin Ahrens and Brent McKee led Northwest Christian with both golfers squeezing inside the top 10. Ahrens was one of the five golfers tied for fifth while McKee concluded the first round one stroke back in 10th with a 75.
Jason Anderson and Jon Gaffney led the contingent from Warner Pacific and Joey Duwe posted the low round for Corban with 4-over 76s to finish in a tie for 11th. Tyler Thurston tied for 31st with an 80 to lead The College of Idaho.
