RIDGEFIELD, Wash.—With three golfers inside the top 10, the Concordia men’s golf squad took the team championships while hosting the Cavalier Spring Classic held at the Tri-Mountain Golf Course.

With a 5-over 293, the Cavs took two strokes off their first-day score of 295 to settle for a 12-over 588 to fend off Southwestern Oregon (302-293—595) by seven strokes. Both teams, along with the fourth-place Beacons from Northwest Christian (309-293—603) fired a 293 on Tuesday. Victoria (308-290—595), the tournament’s third-place team, carded the best team total of the day with a 290.

Also representing the Cascade Collegiate Conference were Corban (319-303—622) in eighth, Warner Pacific (309-333—642) in 10th and The College of Idaho (327-323—650) in 11th.

SW Oregon’s Sam Ayotte (71-71—142) fired back-to-back 71s to claim the medalist honors as the tournament lone golfer under par. First-day leader from Concordia, Marc Arima (70-74—144) scored a 2-over 74 after a first-day 70 to finish in a tree-way tie for second with Northwest Christian’s Justin Ahrens (74-70—144) and SW Oregon’s Nick Fasiano (71-73—144).

Seattle University’s Justin Goar (81-64—145) flirted with the course record of 61 with an 8-under 64 in the second round. Goar leapfrogged from a tie for 40th into a tie for fifth with his second-round score. On the back nine, Goar carded a 7-under 29.

Falling from 11th to 14th despite cutting two strokes from his first-day score, Joey Duwe (76-74—150) led the Corban contingent while Jon Gaffney (76-77—153) scored a 9-over 153 to pace Warner Pacific. Cris Tietsort (81-78—159) led the team from C of I by finishing in a tie for 39th place.

Helping Concordia to the team title were: Jonny Miller (7th, 74-73—147); Will Snow (T10th, 77-72—149), Brad Bachman (T19th, 78-74—152) and Dan Scobie (T19th, 74-78—152).
