Owls Gain 9-7 Win Over U-Sioux Falls

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Oregon Tech baseball team gained a 9-7 win over University-Sioux Falls in a single nine inning non-conference game played today at Mission Bay High School in Southern California.

Owl freshman pitcher, Frank Charlton (1-0), went 6.1 innings to pick up his first win of his collegiate career. Charlton scattered seven hits and gave up four earned runs, while striking out four batters. Cory Stratton came in to get the last out of the game, picking up save number five on the year.

Lee Eklund got Tech on the board in the first with a two-run single. A Zach Earle sacrifice fly in the second gave the Owls a 3-0 lead. A Ryson Mauricio bases loaded single then capped off a four run fifth inning that gave the Owls an 8-1 lead.

USF plated three runs in the six that cut the lead in half, 8-4, and a single run in the seventh closed the gap to 8-5.

Oregon Tech added an insurance run in the eighth inning to make it 9-5.

A USF rally in the ninth plated two runs, but Stratton was able to strikeout the first batter he faced, as the Owls took the game 9-7

Ryson Mauricio finished the afternoon with three hits, three runs and two RBI for the Owls. Trent Smith doubled and drove in a run, while Lee Eklund added two RBI to his total. Kory Locken, Zach Earle and Ryan Smith each drove in one run apiece.

The Owls improve to 17-15 with the victory. Tech will face San Diego Christian tomorrow in another single nine inning non-conference game.
