Hustlin Owl Baseball Splits Twinbill with Cal State San Marcos
The Oregon Tech baseball got a split today with Cal State University San Marcos, winning game one 11-7, but dropping the nightcap 6-2.
The Owls are now 18-17 on the season, while CSUSM currently sits at 17-9 on the year.
In game one, CSUSM held an early 2-1 lead in the third inning. Oregon Tech would open it up in the following innings, taking advantage of a costly error to score three in the fourth, and adding two more in the fifth. Oregon Tech would continue to batter Cougar pitching, adding five more runs in the seventh.
The Cougars would rally in the bottom of the seventh, as a bases clearing double cut the Owl lead to 11-7, but CSUSM would get no closer.
Quinn Hummel led the Owl attack with a 3-5 performance, including a double, three runs and two RBI. Kory Locken tripled and drove in three runs, while Trent Smith and Mitch Crim drove in two runs each. Chad Trevisan pitched a complete game, giving up eight hits and striking out four Cougar batters. Trevisan improved to 4-3 on the year.
In game two, Cougar pitcher Johnny Holtman, went six strong innings, allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out six.
Down 4-0, Oregon Tech cut it to 4-2 in the fifth. Dustin Kim Seu led the inning off with a single and advanced to second on a pass ball. Kory Locken then connected for a two run shot, cutting the lead in half, but the Owls got no closer.
CSUSM connected on back-to-back solo shots and held the Owls scoreless for the remainder, winning by the final of 6-2.
Both teams will meet again tomorrow at Poway High School in a doubleheader starting at 11:00 am.
