STANFORD, Calif.—A day after running the 1,500 at San Francisco State, Concordia’s Linsie Michels returned with an NAIA automatic qualifying mark in the 800 in the second day of competition at the Stanford Invitational.

Michels crossed the line in 2:15.96 to nip the NAIA ‘A’ standard of 2:16.00. Her time also represented a school record, erasing the former record of 2:23.32 set by Noel Cameron in 2006.

The mark was the fifth NAIA qualifying performance by Concordia at the two-day Stanford Invitational. The Cavaliers now have16 total qualifying events to the NAIA Outdoor Championships.

Nearly setting a school record, freshman thrower Sharayah Kenady tossed a 149-10 in the hammer in a seventh-place finish, closing in on the 152-1 school best set by Annie Hess in 2008. Kenady is also approaching the NAIA qualifying standards with the provisional barrier at a looming 151-5.

In the men’s hammer, Michael Wright added more than 14 feet to his personal record with a 156-11 distance to come close to the ‘B’ standard of 158-6.

Setting season bests and adding to their top-ranked throws in the NAIA were Greg Schultz and Nik Kay. Both competing in the invitational fields, Schultz placed seventh in the hammer with a 195-4 and Kay finished in third place in the discus with a 184-7.

In his first outdoor action after participating at indoor nationals, DeAndre Burton registered a 44-3 1/4 effort in the triple jump while finishing in sixth place.
