CU's Ashley Watson scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh against George Fox on Wednesday.
Concordia Gets Walk-Off Win over George Fox
PORTLAND, Ore.–Held to two hits, Concordia used creative baserunning in the ninth for a 1-0 win over George Fox on Wednesday. With the win, Concordia improved to 10-1 while George Fox dropped to 1-4 on the season.
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh of a scoreless game, Tina Garcia reached base via a fielding error after lining the ball to left field. In the next at-bat Robin Gawlista reached after a throwing error by the shortstop. Not content at staying on first, Gawlista made a dash to second while the ball was being brought into the infield, setting up runners on second and third for Becca Gawlista.
On the second pitch to the elder sister, a passed ball would allow Ashley Watson, who was pinch running for Garcia, to scamper in from third for the walk-off CU win.
Danielle Pulfrey struck out 13 Bruins to pick up her sixth win on the year. Pulfrey allowed three hits and walked one in the victory. The junior struck out the side in order in both the first and the fourth innings.
Chelsea Bradely was charged with the loss despite holding the Cavs to two hits. The junior posted three strikeouts and did not issue a walk.
The Bruins best scoring opportunity occurred in the fifth with a one-out single by Kerstyn Tsuruda followed by a two-out single to left by Audrey Doye. Pulfrey would get out of the frame with a come-backer, bouncing off Pulfrey’s glove and to CU shortstop Denise Benedict who fired the ball to first for the final out.
Concordia nearly broke through in the second with runners on first and second with one out, but Bradely was able to generate a fielder’s choice to third and a pop out to short to end the threat.
