Eastern's bats were cold in the double-header today against Walla Walla Community College.

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Eastern Oregon University faced the Warriors of Walla Walla Community College in the double-header today. Eastern had two things going against them; they couldn't get the bats going and too many costly errors in the field, which resulted in losses both games 1-0 and 5-0.

The first game, Kayli Johnston did her job on the mound. Johnston only gave up 1 hit and 2 walks in 7 innings. However, the Mounties couldn't get things going at the plate. Krystal Weseman, Kassi Reisbeck, Iris Woodhead, and Megan Platz all had hits for the Mountaineers.

Eastern outhit Walla Walla, but lost from last minute field errors 1-0 in their first game against the Warriors. Head Coach Missy Wheeler stated, "Kayli Johnston pitched a great game; however, we lost from some untimely field errors."

The second game the Mountaineers struggled at the plate once again. EOU's Megan Monaghan had the only hit for the Mounties.

Samantha Pedro stepped up in the fourth inning to shut down Walla Walla for the remainder of the game. "We gave up runs early and could not counter at the plate," stated Coach Wheeler. The Mountaineers got down early, which resulted in a 5-0 loss in the second game of the double-header today.

"Sam [Pedro] and Kayli [Johnston] did an excellent job on the mound today. We are still working toward finding the pieces to the puzzle, and we have six more games before conference to do so," stated Coach Wheeler.

Next the Mountaineers will travel to Pendleton for a scrimmage against Blue Mountain Community College at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7th.
