Owls Sweep Simpson, Improve to 5-1 in Division Play
Redding, Calif. – The Oregon Tech baseball team picked up a sweep over Simpson University yesterday at Tiger Field in Redding, winning 12-7 in game one and 5-2 in the nightcap. The Owls improve to 11-9 overall and 5-1 in West Region South Division play with the wins.
The Owls received all the run support they would need in inning two of game one, coming up with eight runs to move onto a 12-7 victory in game one. Oregon Tech trailed 2-0 in game two, but two runs in the sixth would tie the game and a three-run ninth sealed the victory winning 5-2 in the nightcap.
Ryson Mauricio finished the day with four hits and six RBI, including a 3-5 and five RBI performance in the first game. Kory Locken, Lee Eklund and Ryan Smith tallied an RBI each. Chad Trevisan gave up five hits and struck out three in five innings of work. With the win, Trevisan improves his season record to 3-1.
Tech trailed 2-0 in game two, until a two-run sixth inning would tie the contest at 2-2. Zach Earle knocked in Tech’s first run of the game and an ensuing RBI double by Mauricio tied the game.
A Trent Smith RBI single would prove to be the game winner, as the Owls plated three runs in the ninth and held the Redhawks scoreless to win 5-2.
Zach Earle was 3-5 with an RBI, followed by Trent Smith going 2-4 at the plate including the game winning RBI in the ninth. Kory Locken and Mauricio both finished with a hit and RBI. Neil Emerson improved to 2-1 with his eight inning, six strikeout and five hit performance. Cory Stratton notched his third save of the season pitching the ninth inning in relief.
Oregon Tech will conclude their four-game series with Simpson University today at Tiger Field in Redding with the first pitch to begin at 11:00 am.
