CCC Players of the Week Named in Track, Baseball, Softball

PORTLAND, Ore. – Seven student-athletes in the sports of track, softball and baseball have earned Cascade Collegiate Conference Player of the Week honors.

This week’s honorees:

Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
College of Idaho’s Stephanie Helm, a sophomore from Challis, Idaho, ran the third-fastest time in the prelims of the 3,000 meters, then improved her time to 10:02.34 in the finals to place fourth and earn All-America honors at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Helm also ran the lead leg on the distance medley relay team, helping the Yotes set a school record and qualify for the finals.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Concordia’s Katherine Tripp, a junior from Sutherlin, Ore., set career and school records by more than a foot, taking fourth place in the shot put at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Johnson City, Tenn. Tripp’s 49-1 effort helped her attain All-America status.

Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Southern Oregon’s Antwun Baker, a junior from North Hollywood, Calif., won the 200 meters in a time of 22.64 and was a member of the winning 4x400 relay team in a time of 3:30.19 at the Artie Sullivan Invitational in Ashland.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Concordia’s Greg Schultz, a senior from Centralia, Wash., earned All-America honors in the 20-pound weight throw at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Schultz led the competition entering the sixth and final throw before settling for second place with a mark of 62-7 ¾. It marked the fifth time in his career he has earned All-America honors.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
College of Idaho’s Jared Arehart, a 6-2 junior from Idaho Falls, Idaho, battled through two snow delays and poor conditions to dominate Concordia in a 10-0 C of I victory. Arehart allowed just one hit, struck out seven and walked none in six innings of work.

Baseball Player of the Week
College of Idaho’s Luke Howarth, a 5-11 senior center fielder from Boise, Idaho, reached base in 14 of 17 plate appearances in helping the Yotes to a 3-1 record. Howard hit a walk-off home run in a 4-3 NAIA West win over Concordia in the second game of the four-game series. Howard batted .750 with one double, one triple and one homer, and scored six runs.

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Concordia’s Danielle Pulfrey, a 5-7 junior from Hillsboro, earned the award for the second consecutive week. In her lone appearance, Pulfrey struck out 13 batters en route to a three-hit shutout victory over NCAA Division III foe George Fox.
