Eastern Swept by Raiders

LA GRANDE, Ore. - The Eastern Oregon Mountaineer softball team dropped two conference games to the Raiders of Southern Oregon on a windy day at Peggy Anderson Field. The Mountaineers move to 6-18 on the season and 2-8 in conference, while the Raiders moved to 13-10 overall, but an impressive 9-1 in conference.

In the first game of a double-header, Eastern's bats caught fire, with three homeruns coming from seniors Megan Platz and Megan Monaghan and freshman Sarah Leutwiler. However, the Raiders bats were even hotter as they scored six runs in the fourth to claim a 14-5 win over the Mountaineers.

The wind caused havoc all over the field in both games, and there were a total of nine errors in just two contests. In the second game the Raiders jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead, but the Mounties scored two in the third inning to pull back within two runs of the Raiders, but could never get any closer.

The Platz homerun in the first game helped her move into a first place tie for career homeruns at EOU. With just one more homerun, Platz will break her tie with EOU alumni Nicole Christian at 25 homeruns.

On Saturday, April 11th the Mountaineers will host the Hustlin' Owls of the Oregon Insitute of Technology for a double-header at "The PEG". The first game will start at 11:00 a.m. The follwing day, Sunday the 12th, EOU will host the Frontier Conference's University of Great Falls. That game is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
