Eastern Oregon defeated Oregon Tech 6-5 and 6-4 on Saturday
Eastern Oregon rallied for a thrilling win against the Oregon Institute of Technology in their first contest, then had to hold on late to complete the Saturday sweep of the Owls. The wins move EOU to 8-18 and 4-8 in the Cascade Conference, while the Owls dropped to 14-15 and 4-8 in CCC play.
Eastern fell behind early in the first contest, but rallied with a huge inning that featured a solo homerun by junior Krista Kountz and a three-run bomb from senior Megan Monaghan.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Owls had two runners coming to home plate after a line drive to the outfield. The first runner made it in safe, but the second was called out, and the teams went to the bottom of the seventh inning, all knotted up at 5 runs apiece.
Good patience at the plate and timely hitting by the Mountaineers loaded the bases with two outs and senior Kimmy Peterson drew a walk to force a run in and take the first game 6-5. Freshman Susie Espinoza took the win for the Mountaineers, moving her record to 4-6 on the year.
In the second contest EOU took an early 2-0 lead, but gave up four runs in the third inning. Eastern rallied to reclaim the lead in the bottom half of the third with three runs of their own, and tacked on an insurance run in the fourth inning to take the second half of the double-header 6-4.
Freshman Samantha Pedro went the distance in the second contest to take her second win this season with 9 strikeouts. The Mountaineers will attempt to get their third consecutive win on Sunday, April 12th when they host the University of Great Falls. The double-header will start at 2:00 p.m. at Peggy Anderson Field on the campus of Eastern Oregon.
