Just behind Helm was Tegan Troutner, who met the NAIA "A" mark with her third-place time of 17:53.05.
Also running well on the opening day of the meet was Molli Lee-Painter, who hit the NAIA "B" mark in setting a school record in the 3,000-steeplechase (11:38.36). On the men's side, Geoff Williams claimed the title in the 3,000-steeple (9:51.51), while Paul Sartin missed the NAIA "B" standard by less than two seconds in the 5,000 (15:13.86).
