This shot to right field made Megan Platz EOU's all-time Homerun leader.
EOU Too Much for Argo's

LA GRANDE, Ore. - Everyone knows that when a pitcher has a no-hitter going it is not to be discussed out loud, or at least I thought so.
With four perfect innings under her belt and the Mountaineers up 8-0 EOU's Suzie Espinoza walked to the mound chasing history. That is until an "observer" mentioned for all to hear, "looks like a no-no". Then, as if on cue, UGF Pitcher Casey Olson hit a bloop single to center field ending Espinoza's perfect game.
None the less, Eastern was near perfect in every other aspect as EOU swept the University of Great Falls 2-1, 8-0. The sweep was Eastern's second in as many days after knocking off Oregon Tech twice on Saturday.
In the first game UGF scored in the top of the 1st when Desiree Clarke came home on a fielder's choice.
After the first Samantha Pedro and the Eastern defense would hold the visiting team scoreless. Pedro picked up the win, spreading out 7 hits over 7 innings.
Down 1-0 into the 4th inning 2nd Baseman Megan Monaghan knotted the score with a solo Homerun to right field. Then with the score tied in the bottom of the 6th, Megan Platz stepped to the plate and belted a double to left center scoring Ashleigh Byrne. The run would prove to be the difference in the Mounties 2-1 win over Great Falls.
Game two was all EOU (10-18, 4-8 CCC) as Espinoza carved up the UGF (7-11) line-up, throwing 5 scoreless innings, giving up just the one hit. The 8-0 win gave the freshman from Tualatin her 5th of the season.
Offensively, there were two big storylines. Senior Megan Platz became EOU's all-time Homerun queen when she hit a solo shot to right field in the bottom of the first. The long ball gave Platz 26 for her career, eclipsing EOU Alum Nichole Christian's 25. Platz leads the Cascade Conference in Homeruns with 12.
Not to be outdone, fellow senior Megan Monaghan hit her 7th and 8th Dingers of the season. Monaghan's day capped off one heck of a week.
The transfer from Everett Community College hit 5 HR in 8 games (two of which were of the Grand Slam variety). Monaghan tallied a massive 19 RBI during a busy week for the slugger from Mt. Baker, Washington.
Eastern will return to conference play Friday when Northwest Christian comes to La Grande. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00pm at "The PEG".
