CCC Players of the Week Named in Track, Baseball, Softball, Golf

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The following Cascade Collegiate Conference student-athletes have been named Players of the Week in their respective sports for the period April 6-12:

Male Track Athlete of the Week
Southern Oregon’s Cameron Kreuz, a senior from Portland, Ore., set a school record in the 1,500 meters with an NAIA automatic qualifying time of 3:48.50 at the Chico State Distance Carnival.

Male Field Athlete of the Week
Concordia’s Jesse Staub, a freshman from Wilsonville, Ore., recorded two NAIA automatic qualifying marks with a pair of third-place finishes at the Western Washington University Ralph Vernacchia Invitational. Staub posted marks of 159-9 in the discus and 195-11 in the javelin. Both marks put Staub in the top 10 on the NAIA’s season performance charts.

Female Track Athlete of the Week
College of Idaho’s Stephanie Helm, a sophomore from Challis, Idaho, ran the second-fastest 5,000-meter time in the NAIA this spring at the Chico State Distance Carnival. Helm clocked a time of 17:07.80 to break the school record by 37 seconds. Helm also placed third in the 1,500, improving her NAIA automatic qualifying time to 4:41.12.

Female Field Athlete of the Week
Concordia’s Katherine Tripp, a junior from Sutherlin, Ore., set a school record with the NAIA’s longest throw of the year in the shot put (49-0 ¾) on her way to winning the event at the Ralph Vernacchia Invitational in Bellingham, Wash. Tripp also placed third in the discus.

Softball Pitcher of the Week
College of Idaho’s Jody Zillner, a junior from Emmett, Idaho, allowed just two earned runs in her three CCC starts, picking up victories over Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon. She posted a 3-1 record, fanning 29 batters in 28 1/3 innings of work.

Softball Player of the Week
Eastern Oregon’s Megan Monaghan, a senior from Mount Baker, Wash., belted five homers and drove in 19 runs in helping the Mounties to a 6-2 record. Monaghan hit .393 and had a slugging percentage of .964.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Concordia’s Ross Conway, a senior from Seattle, Wash., pitched a nine-inning complete game against Corban, allowing just four hits and no earned runs in a 5-2 Cavalier win.

Baseball Player of the Week
Corban’s Craig Spicer, a senior from Vancouver, Wash., helped Corban pick up its lone win of the week by belting his fourth home run of the season in a 6-2 win over Concordia. In five games, Spicer went 7 for 16 (.438) and raised his season batting average to .338.

Men’s Golf Athlete of the Week
Northwest Christian’s Brent McKee, a sophomore from Eugene, Ore., shot rounds of 77-73-73 to place third at the Warner Pacific Invitational, then fired a career-low round of 69 in a tournament vs. Seattle University on his way to a second-place finish.

Women’s Golf Athlete of the Week
Northwest Christian’s Ashley King, a junior from Blue River, Ore., finished third overall to lead the Beacons at the Warner Pacific Invitational in Oregon City.
