CCC Has NAIA's Top Mark in 5 Events
PORTLAND, Ore. – Five Cascade Collegiate Conference track and field athletes currently own the NAIA’s top marks in their respective events and lead a contingent of student-athletes from the CCC who have reached 81 automatic or provisional qualifying standards for next month’s national championships.
Three of the nation’s top marks belong to athletes representing Concordia University – Nik Kay in the men’s discus (184-7), Greg Schultz in the men’s hammer (207-8) and Katherine Tripp in the women’s shot put (49-0 ¾). Other nation-leading efforts belong to Southern Oregon’s Akeem Jackson in the men’s long jump (23-9 ½) and Warner Pacific’s Brett Van Asch in the decathlon (6,173).
In addition, four other athletes rank No. 2 in their respective events – Concordia’s Paul Roshau in the men’s javelin (214-6), Southern Oregon’s Joe Rath in the men’s 10,000 meters (32:14.37), College of Idaho’s Stephanie Helm in the women’s 5,000 meters (17:07.80), and Concordia’s Lauren Sexton in the women’s javelin (155-4).
The CCC has a total of 22 top-five NAIA marks, according to the most current listing.
The NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships are slated for May 21-23 in St. Louis.
The 2009 Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships are scheduled for May 7-9 at Mt. Hood CC in Gresham, Ore.
