Eastern struggles late in both contests against Northwest Christian today.

LA GRANDE, Ore. - Eastern got off to a strong start against Northwest Christian in both games, but struggled to hold them off late in both contests. The Beacons swept the Mountaineers 9-2 and 12-5 today at the Peggy Anderson Field.

The Mountaineers led 2-1 going into the sixth inning, until the Beacons' Cotie Howard hit a HR to give Northwest Christian the momentum. The energy continued throughout the sixth inning for the Beacons and they took the lead 4-2 going into the seventh inning. Northwest Christian had another power inning and scored another 4 runs and held Eastern scoreless. The Beacons defeated the Mounties 9-2.

EOU's Megan Platz had 2 RBI's during the first contest. As a team, Eastern had 7 hits and only 1 error against Northwest Christian. The second contest started off slow for both teams until the second inning, the Beacons got the bats going. Northwest Christian scored 3 runs in both the second and third inning. The Beacons led 6-1 going into the bottom of the 4th. The Mountaineers gained the momentum at bats in the bottom of the fourth to score 4 runs. Eastern was down by one (5-6) going into the top of the 5th inning. Northwest Christian got their bats going and held the Mounties scoreless the remainder of the contest to win 12-5.

As a team, Eastern had 9 hits compared to Northwest Christians 11 hits. EOU's Megan Monaghan hit 2 for 4 and teammate Ashli Hughes hit 2 for 2. Easterns catcher, Crystal Weseman also stepped up to the plate to hit 2 for 3 during the second contest.

The Mountaineers have a busy week at home next week as they will face rival, College of Idaho on Tuesday, April 21st at 3:00 p.m. PST and then will play on Friday against Concordia, Saturday against Corban, and Sunday against Walla Walla University all at the Peggy Anderson Field.
