PORTLAND, Ore.— After dropping a 1-0 decision in the opener, Concordia came back with a 4-2 win in the follow-up for a Cascade Collegiate Conference split against Southern Oregon on Saturday at Delta Park.

With the results, Concordia moved to 22-6 on the season with a 9-5 record in the CCC while SOU ended the day with a 16-13 overall record and a 12-4 record in league action.

After four scoreless innings in the opener, the Raiders generated the lone score of the game with an RBI single to right field by Jordy Kurtz, sending Stroh Fouty home from third after reaching via an error.

Fouty moved to second by way of a sacrifice bunt by Ricci Coultas and to third on a single by Meghan Laughlin. The Cavaliers would get out of the inning with Becca Gawlista throwing Laughlin out at home plate.

Offensively, CU would not get a runner past first until the sixth inning as Nicole Illias would lead off the frame with a single to left and advance to second on single from Kayla Vickaryous. Kurtz, the SOU starter, would get out of the threat with consecutive fly-ball outs.

In the nightcap, Concordia responded with three runs in the bottom of the fourth after the Raiders plated a run in the top half of the stanza. SOU’s Katheryn Moy connected on a solo shot for the 1-0 lead while a three-run last by Shalina Morris gave the Cavs its first lead of the day.

SOU would cut the deficit in half in the fifth with Joelle Riekeman coming home to score on a CU error, but the Cavs would regain its cushion with a single run in the bottom of the sixth en route to the 4-2 win.

Bethany Dempster picked up the win with a three-hit complete game. Dempster struck out eight batters and issued just a single walk. After posting a win in the opener, Kurtz was charged with the loss after allowing eight hits and four runs.

Concordia will return to the field on Sunday when it resumes the Friday doubleheader against Oregon Tech that was postponed due to rain. Action will begin at 11 a.m. at Delta Park.
