Lanier Blast Sinks Simpson

WILSONVILLE, Ore.—Down 1-0 in the fourth, a three-run homer by senior Ben Lanier gave the Cavaliers the lead for good as Concordia defeated Simpson 6-2 in NAIA West Region action held at Wilsonville High School on Saturday.

After the Red Hawks managed an unearned run in the first, CU starter Ian Miller and SU starter Joshua Weise held the offenses in check until Lanier connected on his three-run blast in the bottom of the fourth.

Brennan Ingram started the attack with a single to left field. Cameron Baker gave CU its second runner on the basepaths by inducing a walk off of Weise to set up Lanier’s drive.

The Cavaliers returned with two runs in the fifth and a single score in the sixth to take a 6-1 lead.

Chad Rabichaud hit an RBI single in the top of the eighth to give Simpson its second run.

Miller threw a complete gave to post the win, striking out five and allowing six hits and one walk. Issuing seven walks, Weise lasted 5.0 innings in the loss and was charged with five runs, three of which were earned.

Led by two hits each by Ingram, Lanier and J.J. Berg, CU outhit the Red Hawks 8-to-6.

Red Hawks Rally in the Sixth to Take Nightcap against the Cavs

WILSONVILLE, Ore.—Simpson University scored four runs in the late innings to complete a 6-4 comeback win against Concordia in an NAIA West Region action held at Wilsonville High School on Saturday.

With the win, Simpson improved to 14-32 on the year with a 6-24 record in league action while CU ended the day with an 18-27 mark and a 13-19 mark in league play.

A Jimmy Rudig bomb to left field gave the Cavs a 2-1 lead in the third, but the Red Hawks would quickly tie the match in the next inning with an RBI single by Drake Crump.

In the bottom half of the inning, CU scored two more to take a 4-2 lead, but Simpson would once again retaliate with a four-spot in the top of the sixth. Chad Rabichaud provided the big shot in the spree with a two-run double down the left-field line to tie tie the game at 4-4. Joshua Corson and Mark Austad struck for back-to-back hits to give the Red Hawks a two-run lead.

Trace Klein, coming in for relief, picked up the win after pitching the final three innings. Ben Rue took the loss for the Cavs, lasting 5.1 innings.

Concordia returns to action on April 23 when it travels to Lewis-Clark State.
