Owls Hold Early Leads, Drop Twinbill to Stanislaus
TURLOCK – Oregon Tech led in both games of a Sunday non-conference doubleheader with Cal State Stanislaus, but the Warriors would play the catch-up in both games to drop the Owls, 6-2 and 8-3, today at Warrior Field in Turlock, CA.
Oregon Tech, who on Saturday set the school record for wins in a season, fall to 29-22 on the year but remain at 21-7 in the South Division of the NAIA West.
Game one saw Oregon Tech get on the board with a single run in the third to take a 1-0 lead. The Hustlin' Owls would push across another run in the top of the fifth to go ahead 2-0. The Warriors then took a 3-2 lead in their half of the fifth on a two out bases loaded three run double. The Warriors would plate three more runs and hold the Owls scoreless for the remainder of game #1 to win 6-2.
In game two, the Owls again jumped on top early scoring a run in the top of the first inning. The Warriors, however, would get it back in the bottom half of the inning with an unearned run. More Oregon Tech errors in the bottom of the fourth allowed the Warriors to extend the inning and pick up two runs on three hits to take a 3-1 lead. Oregon Tech then came back with two runs in the fifth and tied the contest at 3-3.
The Warriors then took the lead for good, adding a single run in the bottom half of the fifth to take a 4-3 lead. The warriors then tacked on four more runs, while Warrior relief pitchers shut down the Owl offense, as Tech dropped the nightcap 8-3.
Ryson Mauricio was a perfect 4-4 at the plate and drove in one run in the opening game, while adding a double and RBI in the nightcap. Zack Earle finished 3-5 in the first game, while both Lee Eklund and Quinn Hummel added an RBI. Trent Smith finished with three hits in the late game, including a double and RBI. Nick Staller finished 2-3 at the plate and Eklund added an RBI in game #2.
