Corban & Concordia Tied For Lead After Opening Day of CCC Championships
DAY #1 RESULTS
MONROE, Ore. – After the opening round of the 2009 Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships presented by Diamond Woods Golf Course on Monday, Corban and defending conference champion Concordia are tied atop the leader board with 18 holes to play.
Corban held a two-stroke lead after Round #1 (306-308) before Concordia shot a combined total of 14-over 302 compared to the Warriors' 16-over 304 to set up Tuesday's battle for the conference championship.
Individually, there is a three-way tie for the lead with Concordia's Marc Arima, Corban's Joey Duwe, and Concordia's Will Snow each carding two-round totals of 7-over 151.
Rounding out the Top 5 are Northwest Christian's Justin Ahrens (73-80=153) and Corban's Boe Brodhun (76-77=153).
Team-wise, Corban and Concordia are 25 strokes ahead of Northwest Christian (316-319=635). Meanwhile, The College of Idaho (331-338=669) and Warner Pacific (352-331=683) round out the team totals.
Included in this year's CCC Championships is the GSAC/CCC National Qualifying Tournament that includes four schools from Southern California. The winning team will receive an automatic berth to the NAIA Championships at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illnois on May 19-22.
In the overall team totals, Point Loma Nazarene shot a combined total of 1-over 289 in Round #2 to overtake California Baptist as the leader after Day #1. The Sea Lions' two-round total of 19-over 595 (306-289) is ten strokes ahead of the Lancers (303-302=605), while Concordia and Corban are tied for third heading into Tuesday's third and final round.
Individually, Point Loma Nazarene's Sam Cyr shot a tournament-low 4-under 68 in Round #2 to take over the clubhouse lead from California Baptist's Marcelo Souza. Cyr's two-round total of 1-under 143 (75-68) is two strokes ahead of Souza (70-75=145), while PLNU's Marc Machado (74-75=149) and The Master's College Daniel Mothershead (75-74=149) are sitting in a tie for third.
The third and final round will be played on Tuesday, April 21st, beginning with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m.
