CCC Players of the Week Named in Baseball, Softball, Track
PORTLAND, Ore. -- The following student-athletes have been recognized as Cascade Collegiate Conference Players of the Week for the period April 13-19:
Baseball Pitcher
Oregon Tech’s Neil Emerson, a 6-4 freshman from Phoenix, Ore., tossed a complete-game five-hitter to lead the Hustlin’ Owls to a 13-0 victory over Bethany in an NAIA West game. Emerson walked one and struck out five in his shutout performance.
Baseball Player
Oregon Tech’s Zach Earle, a 5-10 freshman shortstop from Medford, Ore., blasted four home runs and accounted for nine RBI’s in six games. Earle helped OIT clinch the NAIA West southern division title and set a school record for wins in a season. Earle batted .450 for the week.
Men’s Track
Southern Oregon’s Antwun Baker, a junior from North Hollywood, Calif., won both the 100- and 200-meter dashes at the Oregon/California Challenge in Ashland. Baker’s time of 21.94 in the 200 was an NAIA provisional qualifying time.
Men’s Field
Warner Pacific’s Curtis Fisher, a freshman from Sherwood Ore., set a personal record with a jump of 22-9 ¾ to win the long jump at the Lewis & Clark Invitational. Fisher came back to take second in the triple jump with a mark of 43-7.
Women’s Track
Oregon Tech’s LaShell Larman, a sophomore from Klamath Falls, Ore., won the 100- and 200-meter dashes and also ran a leg on the winning 400 meter relay team at the Oregon/California Challenge in Ashland.
Women’s Field
Eastern Oregon’s Cayla Weissert, a junior from Gresham, Ore., put together a big day at the EOU Invitational, clearing a personal-record 12-0 in a winning effort in the pole vault. In breaking the school record, she also earned an NAIA ‘A’ qualifying mark in the event.
Softball Pitcher
College of Idaho’s Jody Zillner, a 5-10 junior from Emmett, Idaho, went 3-0 during the week, helping the Yotes to an upset of NCAA Division I member Boise State in addition to taking a perfect game into the seventh inning of a 3-1 win over Northwest Christian. In 20 innings, she allowed just four earned runs, walked three and fanned 28.
Softball Player
College of Idaho’s Haley Butcher, a 5-7 senior from Eagle, Idaho, had three multi-hit games and batted .692 to help lead the Yotes to a 4-1 record. Butcher was 9 for 13 with two doubles and three RBI’s.
