LA GRANDE, Ore. - Eastern Oregon matched up against the #1 College of Idaho Yotes this afternoon. The Yotes came ready to play and swept the Mountaineers 0-6 and 2-7.
College of Idaho (23-15, 12-3 CCC) had big bats against Eastern (10-21, 4-11 CCC) during the first contest. The Yotes had 11 to the Mountaineers 2 hits. The Mounties struggled to send runners home, leaving 5 players stranded during the first game. EOU held College of Idaho scoreless in the remaining two innings, but resulted in a 0-6 loss.
The second game Eastern Oregon let College of Idaho get off to a quick start by allowing 5 runs in the first inning. EOU then allowed the Yotes to score 1 run apiece in the 2nd and 4th inning, but picked up the defense to hold the Yotes scoreless in the final three innings of the second contest. It wasn't until the bottom of the 6th inning that the Mountaineers got their bats going. EOU's Sarah Leutwiler and Megan Platz scored the only two runs for the Mountaineers. EOU struggled to bring runners home again, as they left 5 runners on base. The Mounties turned the momentum around late in game two, but didn't have enough time to pull things together, resulting in a loss 2-7.
The Mountaineers have a busy home weekend with 3 home games. EOU will match up with Concordia University on Friday, April 24th at 2:00 p.m. PST. This game the Mountie softball team will be wearing teal, EOU t-shirts to bring awareness to sexual assault. The following day the Mountaineers will honor the EOU seniors as they face Corban College. Game time is set to start at 11:00 a.m. PST.
