Two Incoming Freshmen Will Bring Talent to the Evergreen Volleyball Program This Fall
OLYMPIA, Wash. - Current high school seniors Jazzmin Garcia and Mackinnon Walsh have signed their letters of intent to play volleyball beginning their freshman year this fall at Evergreen.
Jazzmin Garcia
Garcia attends Juanita High School in Kirkland, WA and Walsh is from nearby Grays Harbor and Aberdeen High School.
Both received All-League Honors their senior seasons.
At 5-11 and possessing strong skills at the net, Garcia will most likely serve the Geoducks in the outside or right-side hitter position.
During her career at Juanita High School Garcia was the captain of the team for two years, voted All-KingCo First Team in '09 and named to the '09 BCC Tournament All-Star Team.
Garcia was attracted to Evergreen on her first visit with Blackwood and would like to focus on English and Literature academically.
"The second I stepped on campus, I easily pictured myself attending. The class structure, academic freedom, evaluations from teachers, and the Masters program for Teaching is what sold me. I love the easygoing atmosphere that surrounds the campus."
Mackinnon (Mickey) Walsh
Also bringing talent to the net as a hitter is Mackinnon (Mickey) Walsh. The 5-10 senior received All-League Second Team honors two years in a row while at Aberdeen High School and lettered three years in the sport.
Walsh is considering focusing on Biology while at Evergreen and has been a strong student in the classroom. Walsh was given Scholar Athlete honors during her volleyball seasons, adding basketball and softball honors as well.
Blackwood is excited by the two athletes joining the program.
"Having Jazzmin and Mickey on the team helps to add size to our lineup... their addition helps in finding more local talent and rebuild the program." Blackwood notes.
Garcia and Walsh join Spokane Falls transfer Meghan De La Rosa as the newest additions to the '09 team.
