Despite Loss, EOU Softball Raises Awareness
LA GRANDE, Ore - The Mountaineers wore teal t-shirts tonight as they brought awareness about sexual assault. Eastern was defeated in the double header today against Concordia University 10-3 and 7-2.
The Mountaineers got off to a great start during the first contest against the Cavaliers, by taking an early lead 3-2; however this was the only lead that Eastern took and Concordia went on an 8 to 0 run against the Mounties to win the first contest 10-3. EOU's Iris Woodhead had 2 RBI's and senior teammate Megan Monaghan knocked in 1 RBI. Eastern's Suzie Espinoza really hit the ball well connecting 2 for 2.
Eastern took an early lead, once again, during the second contest against Concordia. EOU scored in the bottom of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead over the Cavaliers. However, Concordia picked their bats up to score three runs in the third inning. Both teams had stellar defense as they had 3 up 3 down the fourth inning and scored a run a piece during the fifth inning. The Cavaliers continued to hold the lead, 4-2 going into the top of the 6th. Once again Concordia had strong bats and scored three runs during the 6th inning to take the lead 7-2. Both teams remained scoreless during the last inning.
During the second contest, EOU's senior Crystal Weseman had the only RBI for Eastern. Megan Monaghan and Ashli Hughes scored the only runs for the Mountaineers. Eastern only committed one error during the second game, compared to Concordia's two errors. EOU left a combined total of 8 runners left on base during the double header against Concordia University today.
Despite the tough loss, EOU shined light on sexual assault and raised as well as matched all donations made at today's game.
The Mounties will continue to have home action this weekend on the Peggy Anderson Field as they face Corban College tomorrow in a double header at 11:00 a.m. PST and Walla Walla Community College on Sunday, April 26th at 1:00 p.m. PST.
