Lady Yotes Earn Key CCC Sweep of Corban
CALDWELL, Idaho - Jody Zillner took a no-hitter into the seventh inning in the opener, while Brooke Judy worked around eight hits to toss a shutout in the late game, as The College of Idaho ran their Cascade Conference win streak to eight with 6-1 and 6-0 wins over Corban College at Symms Field.
With the wins, the Lady Yotes (26-15, 15-3 CCC) moved two full games up on second-place Southern Oregon in the CCC standings - as SOU dropped a 1-0 decision this afternoon at Northwest Christian.
In the opener, Zillner picked up her 15th win of the season - not allowing a hit until a Jennifer Kollaer lead-off single in the seventh. She struck out nine in the game, the 11th time this season that the junior has fanned nine-or-more batters in a game.
The Yotes got all the offense they needed in the second, as Kalie Kurdy laced an RBI double, then plated four more runs in the third - as Zillner helped herself with a sacrifice fly, Stacy Smith added an RBI single, with Kurdy lacing a two-run single to push the lead to 5-0.
The nightcap saw the Coyotes jump out to a 3-0 lead in the first, rapping seven singles in the frame, including RBI knocks from Zillner, Haley Butcher, and Kurdy. It was enough for Judy, who was helped by a pair of double plays behind her to pick up her 11th win and her second shutout of the season.
Butcher and Amy Rhoades each had three hits for the Coyotes - part of a 14-hit attack. The Warriors (18-22, 6-12) got a 4-for-4 game from Jessie Jones - breaking the Corban single-season record for hits.
The Coyotes return to action tomorrow morning, hosting Concordia University in a doubleheader at 11 a.m. It will mark the final home games for seven C of I student-athletes.
