Concordia Track Posts 14 Event Wins at Saints and Cavaliers Open
GRESHAM, Ore.— Concordia notched 14 event wins and another 13 second-place finishes at the Saints and Cavaliers Open in a meet co-hosted with Mt. Hood Community College at Earl Klapstein Stadium on Saturday.
In addition, Cordero Cisneros, Sharayah Kenady and Tim Wyland recorded NAIA provisional qualifying marks while Kristine Leonard and Lauren Moran upped their provisional status to automatic entries.
Setting a school record while running virtually alone for the majority of the race, Lauren Moran was timed in 11:30.30 in a first-place run in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Moran, who previously held the school record with an 11:38.42, narrowly edged the NAIA ‘A’ standard of 11:33.00.
Cisneros was the first to cross in the men’s 800, taking 1:54.50 to cover two laps around the track to nip teammate Jessy Brown (1:55.26) to the line. Cisneros nearly split the NAIA automatic and provisional barriers of 1:53.90 and 1:54.90.
The duo of Kristine Leonard and Sharyah Kenady continued their freshman campaign as Leonard improved to shot put mark from provisional status to reaching the NAIA ‘A’ standard with a 44-0 to win the shot while Kenady, already qualified in the hammer, hit the ‘B’ standard dead on in the shot with a 41-3, upping her previous best by nearly three feet.
In the men’s throws, Matt Oliva notched a pair of collegiate bests with a 44-1 1/4 effort in the shot and a 149-5 in the discus. In the javelin, Tim Wyland unleashed a career best for the second time this month, this time posting a 187-3 in the javelin to blow past the NAIA provisional standard. Wyland has added more than 26 feet to his career best this season.
