CCC Players of the Week Named in Track, Baseball, Softball

PORTLAND -- This week's Cascade Collegiate Conference Players of the Week, for the period March 30-April 5:

Male Track Athlete of the Week
Concordia’s Eric Burck, a senior from Ephrata, Wash., opened his outdoor season by clocking a time of 14:40.49 to win the 5,000 meter event at the Willamette Invitational. His time is a school record and bettered the automatic qualifying standard for the NAIA Championships by more than 15 seconds.

Male Field Athlete of the Week
Oregon Tech’s Kyle Gomez, a sophomore from Bly, Ore., registered a javelin throw of 196-8 ½ in his first attempt to win the OIT Invitational and qualify for the NAIA Championships. Gomez’ mark currently ranks No. 4 nationally.

Female Track Athlete of the Week
Concordia’s Linsie Michels, a sophomore from Salem, Ore., posted NAIA automatic qualifying times in the 800 (2:13.51) and 1500 (4:34.36) at the Willamette Invitational. Both times are school records and rank No. 2 nationally. She was the top collegian in each race.

Female Field Athlete of the Week
Oregon Tech’s Sarah Schelb, a junior from Chiloquin, Ore., set a school record in the javelin with a mark of 154-8 in winning the event at the OIT Invitational. Schelb’s mark currently ranks No. 2 nationally.

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Oregon Tech’s Becca Anderson, a 5-5 junior from Molalla, Ore., went 3-0 and allowed just one earned run in 15 1/3 innings. Anderson allowed just one walk and struck out 13 batters in lowering her ERA to 0.46.

Softball Player of the Week
Southern Oregon’s Megan Laughlin, a 5-10 sophomore from Honolulu, Hawaii, batted .667 with a team-high nine RBI’s in leading the Raiders to a 4-0 week. Laughlin had two doubles and two triples to go along with six runs scored.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Oregon Tech’s Josh Strom, a 6-0 senior from Canby, Ore., tossed a six-hitter in a complete-game victory over Corban, sparking the Owls to a four-game series sweep. Strom walked just two and struck out nine.

Baseball Player of the Week
College of Idaho’s Diego Robles, a 6-0 junior third baseman from Caldwell, Idaho, hit safely in all five games last week, including his first two-homer game of his career in a win at Central Washington. For the week, Robles was 9 of 19 (.474) with eight runs, three homers and eight RBI’s.
